Thanksgiving in New York

Hannah, Mina and I visited Aunt Steph and Unky Mike in NYC and had a busy visit.  Hannah was pretty rough the first four days, but thankfully ended strong for a wonderful last day in the city.  Thanks for having us, Aunt Steph and Unky Mike.  Enjoy your relaxation now that we are home!

Thanksgiving in Detroit

While Hannah, Mina and I visited NYC, Jordan and Ella were invited to join the Hays' family for Thanksgiving.  We are so lucky to have wonderful friends that treat us like family!  Thanks for the cute pics, Stef.

Attempted Sleepover

Brooke asked her parents last Friday if Hannah could sleepover, so we packed her up and dropped her at the Hays'.  The girls had a nice night eating rice treats and watching TV, and even switched into each other's pajamas.  Unfortunately, they also switched pull-ups, and Brooke's aren't the super strength overnights we use...  Hannah fell asleep pretty early, but woke up at around 10 when she peed through her pull-up all over Brooke's bed.  Hannah was really upset, and wanted to come home.  Poor Hannah!  She tries so hard to stay dry, but I think she just sleeps too soundly.  I'm sure she will get there eventually, but in the meantime I am thankfully for pull-ups, waterproof mattress pads and understanding friends!

Impromptu Get Together

We had dinner plans with the Dunns, and then the Tobins and Hutsons were able to join last minute.  It was so nice to have everyone together.  Babies Luke and Carson were wonderful, Sawyer and Ella played with toys and jumped on the trampoline together, and Hannah and Sabrina ate at their own table and had a dance party after dessert.  Even Barney and Bailey Hutson had fun playing together. When Nikki asked Sabrina earlier today what she was thankful for, she said Hannah. I hope the girls stay close just like their moms. It was such a nice night, and I am so thankful for such wonderful friends and family.

Cider Mill

We went to the Franklin Cider Mill at 8am this morning and had the place to ourselves. It was so nice! Both girls rode the tractor while Barney explored. Ella and I shared a donut that was delicious!    We then watched the ducks, and as soon as Ella saw them, she said "quack".    Such a beautifil day, I am so sad that winter is just around the corner.

From Halloween to Hannukah

Following  the month long celebration of Halloween, we moved onto Hannukah.  We had a Hannukah party at the Emmer's tonight, and both girls enjoyed time with their cousins and opening presents. Hannah got a basketball set, hula doll clothes, a slinky, a Hannah cup, a wood doll dress up set, and a Barbie.  Ella got a bikini and a book. Let the month long celebration of Hannukah begin!

Chef Hannah

Hannah and I baked cookies for a Hannukah party tonight, and she decided to wear her apron and chef's hat.  Every time she did something, she called herself "Chef Hannah."  "Chef Hannah will put the sprinkles on now" or "Chef Hannah needs to check the cookies to see if they are done."  She cracks me up.  Not sure how her hair got so messy by the end... see picture 2.  "Chef Hannah" must have been working really hard in the kitchen.

And One More of Barney

Moving On Up

Hannah has been working really hard in swimming, and moved up to the Junior 3's about a month ago.  Her friend Brooke was in the 3's, and Hannah wanted to be in the same class.  Today she moved up again to the Gliders after only 3 or 4 classes in the Junior 3's.  She was so proud!

H is for Hannah!

Each week is a different letter at school, and Hannah has been very impatiently waiting for "her" week.  It finally came and she was so excited for her glitter letter H!

Barney Bolton

We have a new family member, Barney Bolton!  We met him at an Animal Aid adoption event this afternoon at the Petsmart in Troy, and felt he would be a perfect fit for our family.  So far, so good!  He is doing well with the kids - loves licking Ella, seems good with cats, walks well on a leash, hasn't barked yet, hasn't jumped yet... We are keeping our fingers crossed that he is really this perfect!

Here is Barney's sad story:

Two volunteers were checking out an abandoned house. They waded through plaster, insulation and trash, working their way to a large room in the back. It was unfinished, with open doors and a hole in the roof. While looking around they noticed a dog lying against a wall. He never moved or made a sound. He was so thin and silent they thought he was dead. But then they saw his eyes were open, looking at them. With some coaxing, they got him up he was so weak he was shaking. He ate a packet of wet dog food and then he ate a packet of dry. He looked up, wagged a little bit, and followed them out of the house and into their car. He'd been alone for a long time, slowly starving, still seeking shelter in the building that had once been his home. A sad, defeated, scruffy brown dog, with a ridge where a collar had once been.

Barney is now in a foster home with other dogs and people who love him. He still eats quickly and howls when he wants to eat, which is often. He is still thin, and a little shaky, but he's getting better every day. Barney is house trained. He gets along well with other dogs. It's sad, but he seems surprised when he gets a little affection. It seems like he hasn't had any for a long, long time.

It is estimated that Barney is between 3 to 5 years old. Barney would love a home with someone to spoil him rotten and show him that the world can be a very wonderful place. He needs a family to love for the rest of his life.

Happy 1st Birthday, Lilah!

We celebrated Lilah's 1st birthday today at Franklin with a hot air ballon themed bounce party.  Both girls had the best time bouncing and hanging out with their cousins, and Hannah was expecially excited that Aunt Sara served hot dogs, cupcakes AND suckers!  Ella ate herself silly and then enjoyed crawling around the bouncers while the big kids ate their cupcakes.  Happy birthday, sweet Lilah!  We were so excited to celebrate with you, and can't wait to see what your second year brings.
