Mother's Day started out great! Jordan and the girls let me sleep in, and then snuggled in bed with me when I opened presents. We then headed to Softa and Zaydie's for brunch, and the girls had so much fun with their cousins. We sat down to eat brunch, and Ella had a huge tray full of food as usual. She started pointing to her mouth and saying, "stuck, stuck". I reached in thinking she had food behind a tooth, and noticed her tongue looked a little large. Then Sara and I noticed her lips looked swollen. Linda went to get Benadryl and then Ella started having difficulty breathing. Linda gave her a shot of epinephren and we called 911. Ella threw up quite a bit before the ambulance arrived, but aside from being pretty smelly she was doing well when we headed for the hospital. It was Ella and my first ride in an ambulance, and she was fascinated. She pointed out every light, and liked sitting on mommy on the guerney. We were admitted and they kept Ella there for a short observation. Everything checked out ok, and we were discharged. Now to figure out what caused it! We went to the allergist this morning, and unfortunately they can't test for 6 weeks because of the medications she is on from her reaction. The likely culprits are pecans or fish, since they are both common allergans that she doesn't eat frequently. One of the EMTs wondered if she had been choking, not having an allergic reaction. I keep trying to replay the morning in my head, but it was such a stressful time that I'm sure none of us were thinking clearly. I guess we will find out more in 6 weeks, and until then we will be living a nut and seafood free life.
I am so lucky to have my two wonderful girls, and know that we were very lucky to be at Softa's when this happened. I appreciate all of the moms in my life, but am especially thankful for Linda this Mother's Day!
